Dual citizens in jail in Iran as hostages

The human rights violations in Iran are of grave character as we can read heartbreaking stories of innocent civilian citizens that are being imprisoned from 5 to18 years on bogus charges. I will tell you some of their stories.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe

Robin (Reza) Shahini
: On October 15, 2016, Shahini was sentenced to18 years in prison for acting against national security, participating in protest gatherings in 2009, collaborating with Voice ofAmerica (VOA) television and insulting the sacred on Facebook by the Revolutionary Court in Gorgan. Based on Article 134of Iran’s Islamic Penal Code, he would become eligible for parole after serving at least nine years.
Reza objects to the harsh 18-year sentence issued against him said the source. All the charges against him are based on his writings on Facebook or his blog. He is currently out on bail waiting for the outcome of his appeal. (March 2017)
seven Iranian facebook activists sentenced to 5-7 yeaars jail
Iranian-British dual citizen Nazanin Zaghary Ratcliffe, sentenced to five years in prison inSeptember 2016, has been held since April 2016. She was a charity worker that was arrested as she was on her way home to the UK, her daughter Gabriella is held hostage in Iran while Nazanin is in jail.
The Iranian-American businessman Siamak Namazi, held since October 15, 2015, and his father, 80-year-old Bagher Namazi, held since February 2016, have both been sentenced to ten years in prison.
The British-Iranian Roya Saberi Nobakht, held since October 2013, has been sentenced to seven years.
Iranian-Austrian dual citizen Kamran Ghaderi, held since January 2016, has been sentenced to10 years in prison.
Iranian-American Karan Vafadari held since July 2016.
Iranian-born Swedish resident Ahmadreza Jalili, held since April 2016, have not been sentenced yet.
The Judiciary’s ongoing imprisonment of dual nationals contradicts Rouhani’s repeated calls for expatriates to return to Iran. The growing number of arrests also reflects hardliners’efforts to prevent the engagement with the West that the Rouhani administration has sought to encourage. These type of faiths are unfortunately very common in Iran, the Iranian court does not recognize dual citizenship, that means in their view the prisoners are Iranians that has committed treason against the Islamic state.
The Iranian regime is actually holding these innocent people as a bargaining chip, they are hostages of the regime. The regime intends to use the safety of these prisoners to put pressure on their new homeland to get better deals. This is grave human rights violations and it can be classified as terrorism against innocent defenseless victims.
It is important that these cases are out in the open as the American and the Canadian authorities are voting over sanctions on Iran. It is important to know that any sanctions on Iran will affect the regime the most since almost all major companies in Iran are either owned by the supreme leader or the IRGC. We, therefore, urge the Canadian Senate to vote in favor of Bill-219.
