On Friday, April 14, 2017, Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in Tirana, Albania. The issues that were discussed in this meeting was the development in Iran and the Iranian regime’s meddling in the middle east region.
Senator McCain praised MEK for their relentless struggle for freedom and democracy in Iran, he also expressed his deepest condolences to the MEK/ PMOI members who have lost loved ones by the hands of the clerical tyrants in Tehran.
McCain also said he believed that the Iranian regime, Bashar al-Assad and the Daesh (ISIS) was interrelated and could be dealt with one by one. He expressed the urgent need to remove Assad from power and the need to evict Iran from Syria and Iraq.
Prior to the meeting, Senator McCain visited one of the MEK headquarters in Tirana where he was warmly welcomed by MEK members that have been relocated from Camp Liberty. Mrs. Rajavi and a number of U.S Embassy staff in Tirana accompanied him in this visit.
In her speech, Mrs. Rajavi thanked Senator McCain for his support and expressed her gratitude for his key role in the safe relocation of Camp Liberty residents. The people of Iran are for that effort grateful to you, she added. She pointed out that under the 2009 uprising when Iranian's hope for freedom and democracy was brutally crushed by the tyrannical regime, the US was silent. But regardless the setbacks the Iranian resistance is determined to continue the struggle to overthrow the clerical regime. She also pointed out that we are closer than ever to a regime change because the divided political fractions in the regime are drifting further apart. She also said that the regime is responsible for war crimes in Syria and must be evicted. She also pointed out that there will be no peace in the region before the mullahs of Iran are overthrown and a new democratic government rules Iran.
The very notion that this meeting is taking place marks a shift in the world opinion. Leaders that before believed the lies of the Iranian regime is now fully aware of the crimes the regime is committing against its own people and against their neighbors, Syria and Iraq, and are giving their support to the Iranian resistance, the NCRI. NCRI’s work towards freedom and democracy in Iran is highly appreciated by the world leaders, and are gaining more and more support. It has become apparent that the NCRI is the best option when it comes to a regime shift in Iran and the very fact that they have great support from Iranians living inside Iran tells us that the NCRI is the only organization strong enough to overthrow the dictators in Tehran. The sacrifice of the thousands of Iranian martyrs will not be forgotten and in tomorrow’s Iran the culprits responsible will be prosecuted and convicted.
